Marriage is the Sacrament which binds a man and a woman together in a covenant under God and His Church. It is a partnership that lasts for life which is faithful, permanent, and fruitful. Marriage is the foundation of the family, the "domestic church” (CCC 1666), the most basic and foundational structure, not only for the Church, but for all of society.
"Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female' and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, no human being must separate.” (Matthew 19:4-6)
The love between a husband and wife is a reflection of Christ’s love for the Church. The sacrament of Marriage is a major spiritual milestone in life and should be celebrated in the presence of God and the Church.
In accordance with Diocesan Church Policy, the process of marriage preparation and the scheduling of the marriage must begin at one year prior to the proposed wedding date. A couple who is preparing for marriage must meet with the Pastor for scheduling and planning the marriage ceremony. The couple must also participate in Pre-Cana, or Marriage Encounter offered through St. Paul Inside the Walls in Madison. Contact the Parish Office at 973-786-6631 for more information.
